DCHS Sports Policy
The parents of Dufferin Christian School envision DCS as
a place where students and teachers are engaged in the study of various subjects
and enlightened by the Word of God, as confessed in the Belgic Confession,
the Heidelberg Catechism, and the Canons of Dort,
for living a life of Christian discipleship in contemporary society.
Dufferin Christian School offers a learning program that is
approved by Manitoba Education and Youth,
taking into account a variety of abilities and needs
God has given to each child.
Interscholastic Athletics at DCS must fit in with our Christian world-and-life view. It should be viewed as an extension of the curriculum which attempts to meet the mission statement of the school. Each human being is created by God to praise and serve Him. Body, mind and soul are interdependent and form a whole which cannot be separated. The whole person is called to be an instrument of service to God and others. Athletics should be viewed as a response to that calling.
Athletes
Qualifications:
Ø S1 - S4 student in good standing at DCS. Good standing means that the student will maintain grades and a level of performance corresponding to his/her gifts and abilities. A student is permitted to participate in a game or tournament provided that in-class effort is at a satisfactory level. It is expected that a student will budget his/her time wisely during the season to ensure that homework and assignments are completed and that content missed during an absence is caught up.
Responsibilities:
Ø Accept that it is a privilege, not a right, for students to be involved in interscholastic sports.
Ø Demonstrate a healthy and positive attitude toward competition.
Ø Demonstrate Christian character and sportsmanship – be responsible for their actions, as individuals and as a team.
Ø Attend team practices. Practices are to be given the same importance as games. Time spent together in practice is essential to building up the team physically and spiritually.
Ø Must inform the coach if they will be absent for a practice or game.
Ø Must maintain their school work. (Students on probation may not participate.) Tournaments and games are not acceptable excuses for incomplete assignments.
Ø A player having an unexcused absence or having been absent from class on a game day because of illness, may not play that day.
Ø Must sign and adhere to the regulations for each sport.
Ø Participate in any necessary fund-raising for athletic program.
